Since its inception, the Fayette County Area Chapter of Jack and Jill has continued to grow its membership and has received recognition for its participation in the Children’s Cluster and Regional Teen Conference. A noteworthy accomplishment was hosting the 47th Southeastern Regional Teen Conference in 2003. Other opportunities to host regional and area chapter activities were soon to follow. In 2004, the chapter’s Teen Group hosted the Metro Atlanta Area Chapters Teen Christmas Dance. The Southeastern Regional Children’s Cluster for 2006 was hosted by our chapter at Peachtree City Elementary School. The theme was “Character Counts” and the children knotted over 30 fleece blankets for needy families as their collaborative community service project.
The year 2005 marked the 5th Anniversary for the Fayette County Area Chapter and the mothers celebrated with a “house party” inviting all mothers – past and present – to join in the celebration of five fabulous years. The year 2010 marked the 10th Anniversary for the Fayette County Area Chapter and the mothers celebrated by hosting an evening gala themed “We Are as Strong as Our Roots.”
Fayette County Area Chapter Noteworthy Accomplishments
2001 FCAC Father’s Auxiliary was formed – Mr. Arnold Martin was the first Chairman.
2003 Hosted the 47th Southeastern Regional Teen Conference.
2004 FCAC Teen Group hosted the Metro Atlanta Chapters Teen Christmas Dance.
2005 Marked the 5th Anniversary of the Chapter and a “House Party” was held. All mothers – past and present – were invited to attend.
2006 Chapter planned and hosted the Southeastern Regional Children’s Cluster. The theme was “Character Counts” and during the event the children made over 30 blankets for needy families.
2007 Chapter participated in Hands on Atlanta Day as a community service project. Hosted “Hoop It Up” basketball tournament for Atlanta Area Teens.
2008 FCAC donated over 500 toiletry bags to Hosea Feed the Hungry in preparation for their annual Thanksgiving Dinner.
2009 FCAC hosted a Belk Private Shopping Event Fundraiser to support our Chapter’s charitable efforts. We identified and sponsored a military family for United We Serve, and the Chapter also held its second Hosea Feed the Hungry – Toiletry Drive.
2010 The chapter proudly celebrated its 10th Anniversary by hosting an evening gala themed “We Are As Strong As Our Roots.” It was an especially memorable occasion for our Chapter. The Chapter held its third Hosea Feed the Hungry toiletry drive. The Teen Group hosted the Metro Atlanta Area Chapters Teen Christmas Dance. The Chapter ended the year with a 10th Anniversary Celebration for our children during our Black Family Day.
2011 Hosted the Ann Owen Gordon Oratorical Competition and Speak Up, Speak Out! The Belk Private Shopping event returned as our fundraiser piece, raising $1,200 for charity. The teens organized a yard sale for the fundraiser, raising $2,000. Atlanta Community Food Bank was our community service project. Our chapter participated in the March of Dimes Walk in Atlanta.
2012 FCAC supported the March of Dimes, Light the White House Purple, on line campaign. This campaign marked 75 years of service for Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and the March of Dimes. Partnered with Newnan/Coweta Habitat for Humanity to clean up, repair, and beautify the Corn Crib and Beverly Park subdivisions. Over 60 Chapter moms, kids, teens and dads participated to help revitalize the appearance of and preserve the integrity of the neighborhoods.
2013 FCAC held its first signature fundraiser event-Summer Jazz Under the Stars at the Coweta Club, Newnan, GA. Featured artists were the legendary King of Strings, Ken Ford and vocalist, Toni Byrd. Benefiting organizations included Jack and Jill of America Foundation and the following 501(c)3 community partners: Bloom, Newnan Coweta Habitat for Humanity, and Promise Place. FCAC partnered with Newnan/Coweta Habitat for Humanity our annual full chapter community service event. Over 45 chapter moms, kids, teens and dads participated. FCAC members participated in the March of Dimes/March for Babies Fayette County (GA) raising over $500.00. Our Chapter was awarded the 2013 Jacqueline Robinson Grant in the amount of $3,000. Funds were used to bridge a cultural awareness gap within our community working with a local 501(c)3 organization, Grandparents & Kin Raising Children. The chapter was recognized by the Fayette County NAACP and presented the Freedom Award. The chapter also made a $250 contribution to the National Center for Human and Civil Rights Museum in Atlanta, GA.
2014 – 2015 FCAC was awarded the 2014 Jacqueline Robinson Grant in the amount of$3,000. The focus of the grant proposal was to work with Grandparents & Kin Raising Children as we expose them to the arts via art class, live performances and art exhibits. FCAC partnered with Newnan/Coweta Habitat for Humanity for full chapter community service build. FCAC teens established the Fayette County Area Chapter of Junior States of America. FCAC hosted the Atlanta Metro Area Teen Community Service Project: 10,000 Soles for Africa. The chapter was recognized by the Fayette County NAACP and presented the Freedom Award. The Chapter hosted a legislative forum open to the residents of Fayette and Coweta counties entitled, Our Children Are Not For Sale, to educate participants on domestic minor sex trafficking. The Fayette County Area Chapter actively participated in the Fayette County Branch NAACP, MLK parade and program.
2015 – 2016 FCAC was awarded the 2015 Jacqueline Robinson Grant in the amount of $3,000. The chapter worked with the nonprofit organization, Grandparents & Kin Raising Children to further promote the importance of math and science and professional STEM career fields to children ages 5 to 18 years old. The chapter hosted a fundraiser event- The Sounds of Summer Benefit Concert and successfully raised $7,000 for the following nonprofit organizations: Bloom, Promise Place, Newnan/Coweta Boys and Girls Club and Jack and Jill of America Foundation, Inc. Mothers and teens participated in the Second Annual March of Dimes, Prance for Preemies Walk/Run in Newnan, GA and in Peachtree City 2015 Walk to End Alzheimer’s. FCAC partnered with the Newnan/Coweta Boys and Girls Club for a full chapter community service event and with the Fayette County Junior States of America Club to host our second community legislative event.
2016 – 2017 FCAC placed 3rd in the 2016 National PSA Literacy Competition. FCAC Jack and Jill hosted a town hall meeting focused on the topic of Gun Control Legislation, Education and Advocacy on March 24, 2016 at the Fayette County Public Library. FCAC Members, Tots, Tweens, and Teens participated in the March of Dimes, March for Babies on April 16, 2016 in Peachtree City, GA. In August 2016, FCAC Mothers participated in MACY’s Shop for a Cause August 26 – 28, 2016. FCAC Members, Tots, and Tweens participated in the National Down Syndrome Society 2016 Buddy Walk on October 16, 2016. FCAC hosted a chapter wide community service event called OPERATION: RESTORE for The Bloom Closet in Fayetteville, GA on November 12, 2016. FCAC co-hosted the TEEN DANCE on January 15, 2017 with the Dunwoody Chapter. FCAC Fathers Auxiliary along with the February Teen Host Mothers sponsored a Legislative Seminar on February 11, 2017. FCAC members, teens, and children participated in the March of Dimes, March for Babies on April 15, 2017. Our Chapter proudly hosted Children’s Cluster on April 22, 2017 at Woodard Academy.
2017 – 2018 FCAC was awarded a $500 for our attendees at the 2017 On the Hill Summit. September 17, 2017 FCAC Teens completed a photo shoot and PSA for the Silence the Shame campaign which will be featured on the Silence the Shame flyer – Atlanta tour date. On November 18th, 2017, FCAC age groups will compile gift baskets for participants in Centering Pregnancy at Southern Crescent and the NICU at Piedmont Fayette in recognition of Prematurity Awareness Month (March of Dimes). Our November Fundraiser – “Shop Until You Drop” will occur at the Ann Taylor Store in Peachtree City, with proceeds going to Foundation. FCAC will host “Wedges & Wingtips Wine Tasting” on April 29, 2018. This fundraiser will benefit the following organizations: Bloom, Boys and Girls Club, Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, and Jack and Jill Foundation. Our major event for 2018 is co-hosting the Regional Teen Conference with the Greater Atlanta Chapter – June 20 – 24, 2018.
