Our Chapter history

Fayette County Area Chapter History

The first organizational meeting of mothers interested in forming a Fayette County Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., was held on March 20, 1999, in the meeting room of the Peachtree City Library. Tonya Cureton Curry and Veronica Pearson Curry, who shared the desire to unite with other African American mothers with similar ideals and interests to form a Charter Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., hosted it. The founding members hoped to bring together children in a social and cultural environment that fostered their growth toward adulthood.

On March 28, 1999, the mothers of Tots, Tweens, and Teens of Fayette County met with national and regional officers of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., to confirm their commitment to becoming a Charter Chapter of Jack and Jill. On this day, eight officers and six group advisors were selected out of the 18 mothers attending. The 1999 – 2000 programming year of Tots, Tweens, and Teens was a huge success benefitting most of the children of the organization who embraced the cultural and social advantages of the meetings. Provisional Chapter status was obtained on July 20, 2000, during the 2000 National Convention of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Tots, Tweens and Teens of Fayette County was established.

The commitment, determination and hard work of the 18 founding members prevailed in their mission to uphold the spirit of Jack and Jill by fostering the cultural, social, and educational growth within their families and the families to come. It was on September 24, 2000, that the Fayette County Area Chapter celebrated its installation as the 37th Chapter in the Southeastern Region of Jack and Jill of America Inc.
